Lyra Pramuk is now Alif Hilal.
Rooted in Islamic and Arabic traditions, the name joins Alif, the first letter of the Arabic alphabet, with Hilal, the crescent moon, a symbol of renewal that marks the beginning of the lunar month. In keeping with a tradition observed by many converts to Islam, the name reflects my spiritual path and a renewed sense of personal and artistic alignment while remaining in continuity with the work that has brought me here.
When I was first introduced to Islam, I was taught that everything is worship, and any true expression can be considered worship. With this change, I plant a seed of lifelong commitment to my devotion as the central axis of my life, my work, and my art. This is a decision that has taken courage and focus, and I’m so excited for this new chapter and what it is opening inside me.
I feel deeply grateful for the path that has been laid before me and for the opportunity to become more honest in the ways I live and create. I hope that we all find spiritual disciplines, languages and practices that help us live in truth, with integrity, courage, and radical love.
Thank you for following along with this journey.
